Use Your Noodle. Use Moodle

Set up an account to practice in the sandbox.

Moodle Tools:
Resources
Forums allow discussion asynchronous.
Assignments: this has some strong potential for us. Student can submit an assignment, teacher can grade it right there and send link back to the student. This would help get past the limitations of handing in via Commons. Grades can be exported to excel and then out to your grade book.

Strategies for Implementing iPod Touches Successfully

Good discussion of using the iPod and the iPad in elementary, middle school and high schools as well as by administrators. Also talked about Google Apps a lot and how the two can work together, especially for the admins.

Lot of good research on how the use of mobile devices is improving student achievement.

Librarians are managing carts and touches with bar codes and check out system. So far apps can be distributed across multiple iPods, but that may change or be different with different vendors. No site licensing for apps yet.

One panelist's high school district started by giving the iPods to teachers and then had a debriefing session on what you can do with them. Turned out to be an effective way to get them in the hands of kids.

Lots of good resources at their site: http://Tinyurl.com/touchdowniste

Webcast Workshop

This presenter is from Virginia and creates webcast projects focused on historical events, specifically the Civil War, which lend themselves to a nice narrative. He's doing his projects as a summer camp I'd like to see if we could do classroom based narratives. Aren't there weekly "events" that students could report out on? Could also focus on historical Clancy topics for a more involved projects. Elkhorn Ghost Town field trip would work as a topic too.

Science Posters

Since The first session I wanted to attend was maxed out for capacity I wandered the poster exhibits. These are all on science topics and the breadth and variety makes me wish I taught science anything. One presentation by a Connecticut middle school was about assessing water quality which is something we have done and can do in Clancy. It was an interdisciplinary study. Language arts read and wrote investigative news articles about local water contamination. Good ideas.

On to ISTE

Well, the fam and I are off to Denver so can attend the ISTE Conference. I know I will be overwhelmed by the number and variety of offerings, but I'm ready for the total immersion effect. Since I'll forget as much as I learn, I'm going to take my notes here.
